Welcome to the blog for the Student Law Society at Bournemouth University. Each month we are going to update the blog with the latest news and events and the goings on of the committee with our studies and the law soc.

My name is Bryan Scant; I'm the president of the society this year, along with Hatty Cantrill, Kirri Shanks, Amy Light and Louise Hyland, together making up the committee.

Becoming president of the law society came about after my involvement with the committee last year. To become a member of the committee in the future year, the current committee have to nominate you. This is then subject to being voted in by the remainder of the committee.

I chose to run for president because I enjoyed being a member of the society last year and wanted to have some involvement with the running of it this year. Being a member of a student society is always advantageous for your CV, another reason why I wanted to be a part of it.

I'm in my second year of the LLB law and taxation degree, 2 more years left, one of which is my placement year. After uni I want to go on to do my LPC and become a solicitor.

At the moment we are in the process of organising the Christmas Ball. We are organising a guest speaker to attend a black tie dinner dance being held in a local hotel. The aim of the party is to show prospective lawyers the type of events they will be attending when they qualify, with a guest speaker that they will hopefully find interesting and informative. Of course, it will also be a chance for everyone to unwind and celebrate the end of the term and Christmas!

Everything is a bit hectic right now, trying to combine studying with running the society, and as a whole we haven't been as organised as we could have been but we hope to sort this out... second year law is proving a bit more work than some of us anticipated!
